WWCBD?

Style icon character Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and the City will always be remembered for her fun, eclectic and highly copied sense of style. Combining contemporary and vintage pieces, you either loved her look or cringed at the combination of clothing. Either way, the aesthetics always inspired in someway. When we received the Black & White Lace Trim Candice Dress, Carrie Bradshaw popped into my head right away. Put together with the right pieces, we think we created a cohesive yet quirky enough look that would make our favorite New Yorker proud!

When I think of Easter I think of bunnies, girly dresses, and florals. When I think of Alice In Wonderland, I pretty much think of the same things! In our latest lookbook, we combined these two different worlds to showcase some of our favorite spring looks. We had a lot of fun with the shoot and here are some of my favorite outtakes.

Print Mixing: Some Basic Tips

Subtle or bold, give print mixing a try with these tips
  • Mix prints based on scale. If you do a larger print on top pair it with a smaller scaled print on the bottom
  • Give pattern mixing a subdued effort by mixing a subtle stripe or other print with a bold print to give your look the right amount of contrast
  • Feeling brave? Floral on floral can be a bold and stylish statement if done correctly based on the color and scale of the prints you're working with
  • Finding a common color among your patterns is a great way to tie the two otherwise varying prints into one great look
  • Pattern mixing can even be achieved in a chic way with smaller details such as your accessories. A leopard print belt or bag set against a navy and white polka dot top would be a great way to ease you into becoming the mix master you wanna be!

With all these lush floral and pastel prints coming out for spring, pattern mixing is something every girl should try at least once. Will you give it a try this season?

Time For Tea!

Spring is in the air and we're getting yards and yards of floral printed garments to get you ready for one of my favorite times of year. I fell in love with our Fluorescent Floral Babydoll Dress which I could see being worn to a cozy spring time tea party. The dress would look adorable with our Pink Tear Drop Bib Necklace Set and stacked with a variety of our cute and blingy bangles and bracelets. We love a good DIY project around here and I found a great video on Youtube of how to achieve those awesome rose bud studded sunnies. Channel your inner hooligan and finish off this superbly girly look with your favorite pair of combat boots and you're set to go! Hey, who's bringing the macarons???

DIY: Glam Up Those Heels!

I love, love, love the idea behind this brilliant DIY piece I found on our Pinterest page! Instead of tossing out or ignoring those old heels of yours, give them new life in a totally creative way. You may be wondering if any other glue such as hot glue may work for this project but as an avid crafter and DIY-er myself, let me say that sticking to E-600 glue is key. The stuff is flexible and works beautifully on fabric. Will you give this idea a try and glam up those old heels of yours?

Do or Don't: Socks and Heels

Yes, we understand the idea of heels and socks may make the chicest of fashionistas cringe, but lets give it another thought here. This trend has been a source of controversy around the office here at Dainty Hooligan headquarters with nay-sayers and supporters alike, but I'd like to believe that with the right dress and styling the look can be well adopted into any girls style repetoire.  Would you dare to try this trend?
