Dainty Hooligan Blog: 3 Of Our Favorite ALS Ice Bucket Moments

The ALS ice bucket challenge; you've seen 'em everywhere on every single feed of yours and hey, you probably participated in them! Water wasting worries aside the challenge so far has raised about 80 million dollars towards research. Here is a small round up of some of our faves.

Fashion queen Donatella Versace kept it over the top and fabulous with two shirtless models and a couple of decadent buckets.

Matthew Lewis (a.k.a Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter movies) gave Potter fangirls everywhere an eye full with his ice bucket challenge. My, how the wizard has grown!

And finally, we have the ice challenge seen around the world by the cinnamon challenge queen herself, Glozell. Words cannot express how hilarious this clip is!

Dainty Hooligan Blog Post: Prevent Date Rape With A Special Nail Polish?

Recently four students from the University of North Carolina have created a nail varnish that will be able to detect if someones drink has been spiked with a "date rape" drug by changing color. This invention has sparked both praise and controversy from critics. Is this nail varnish revolutionary? Depends on who you ask.

According to Newsweek.com, Katie Russell from Rape Crisis England & Wales was critical of the development of this and other "preventative" options against date rape. Why? She states, “Whilst Undercover Color’s initiative is well meaning, on the whole,” she said, “Rape Crisis does not endorse or promote such a product or anything similar. This is for three reasons: it implies that it’s the woman’s fault and assumes responsibility on her behalf, and detracts from the real issues that arise from sexual violence.”

“For us, we work with victims to make them realize that they did nothing wrong,” she added. “Among primary cases, some do ask if they could have done anything to stop it. Products like this suggest otherwise. The emphasis must be placed 100% on the perpetrator.”

While we completely understand that angle, it seems anything that will help prevent rape and the act of blame and emotional recovery afterwords would be supremely beneficial to anyone in the dating scene.

This special nail polish is going under further development and refinement before it's going to be available to the masses. What do you think? Is this nail varnish good or bad? For more information, visit the Newsweek.com article.

Dainty Hooligan Blog Post: Hello, Kitty White?

It seems everything you assumed about Hello, Kitty was wrong. The Los Angeles Times reports, that Christine R. Yano, an anthropologist from the University of Hawaii, was corrected by Sanrio when she unknowingly made the mistake of calling world famous cartoon character Hello, Kitty a cat.

She apparently is really a little girl, not a cat. Yano says, "I was corrected — very firmly. That's one correction Sanrio made... Hello Kitty is not a cat. She's a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She's never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it's called Charmmy Kitty."

Hello, Kitty is actually named Kitty White and she has a full back story. She is a Scorpio, she loves apple pie, and she is the daughter of George and Mary White.
"She has a twin sister," adds Yano. "She's a perpetual third-grader. She lives outside of London."

Bazaar? Perhaps, but it doesn't make Hello, Kitty any less cute! (The Los Angeles Times)

Dainty Hooligan Blog Post: Wedding Worthy Dresses & A DIY Bonus!

We love how many of you hooligans out there are brides-to-be and choose one of our lovely dress to wear on your big day! Brides and bridesmaids alike often find what they're looking for at our website with our large selection of gorgeous dresses. Here are some favorite dresses of brides we've worked with in the past and some of our own favorites.

With these beautiful dresses used non-traditionally for weddings, it makes sense that a non-traditional veil be used as well, right? Here are a couple DIY veil ideas that we loved that we think would look great for  your wedding day!
Over at greenweddingshoes.com, they show you how to make a polka dotted veil using soft tulle and acrylic paint. Personally, I'd dress it up a little more with crystals and tulle at the comb and add a border of pretty scalloped lace at the edge. But we also love the simplicity of this veil in it's original incarnation as well!

This veil may be a little bit more time consuming, so it's definitely for the DIY enthusiasts out there but the end result would be worth the time and effort! Threebirdsjewelry.com offers up their tutorial for their Birdcage Veil and it's definitely a beauty!

We love our brides! Please be sure to check us out for more dresses for your big day!
